Lead Infrastructure Engineer
Job Description
Position Objective:
Apply expert technical analysis, design, and implementation skills to ensure the Fidelus infrastructure meets the needs of the company's business strategy and guiding architectural principles. In addition, the Lead Infrastructure Engineer will guide project teams in the design, development, and implementation of project-specific infrastructure components, and serve as the lead engineer for infrastructure deployments.
The Lead Infrastructure Engineer will report to the Chief Technology Officer. The primary duties of the Lead Infrastructure Engineer, which require the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance, the knowledge of any advanced type in a field of science or learning customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction, and the practical application of highly specialized knowledge in computer systems analysis, programming and/or software engineering, include the following:
Develop and maintain the strategy of the future direction of LAN/WAN
Develop configuration and performance standards for network; and implement and monitor controls to ensure they are maintained
Evaluate business needs, objectives, and goals, researching products available and designating procedures to best meet those needs
Develop plans for implementation of new projects, coordinating process with project leader. Provide well-defined plans including procedures, deadlines, and accountability
Coach and direct network staff in operational activities to ensure compliance with departmental goals, objectives, and budget
Review on a continual basis the department procedures, staffing and equipment for maximum efficiency while controlling costs
Ensure that network staff utilizes technology to provide staff with a fast, accurate, and secure method to access information, in order that members can be serviced in a highly efficient and effective manner. Ensure support is provided to "internal" staff in a professional, courteous, and timely manner
Carry out other such duties as may be assigned or requested
Knowledge, Skills Abilities:
Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, technical and analytical skills
Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
Solid writing skills
Good interpersonal skills including the ability to make effective presentations
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to integrate information from multiple sources
In depth understanding of full life cycle software engineering processes, tools, utilities, and methodologies, required
Broad interdisciplinary knowledge of current technologies required
Education / Experience:
Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience, required
Minimum of six years experience in IT infrastructure engineering, IT infrastructure project team leadership, or IT infrastructure administration, for computing environments entailing open systems, middleware, or database components, required
Previous experience as an IT project manager or IT group workshop facilitator, preferred
Three years of previous experience in any two or more of the following infrastructure engineering domains, preferred: Middleware, Database, Server, Network, Storage, Security, Enterprise Systems Management, or Personal Computing
Prior experience with vendor management and vendor negotiations, preferred
Professional IT infrastructure certifications, such as Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and Certified Cisco Engineer, preferred
One year of supervisory experience preferred
