INTRODUCTION

Microsoft Office Communicator (Office Communicator) is a unified communications client that helps employees communicate using a wide range of options including, instant messaging (IM), voice, video, and conferencing.  Office Communicator 2007 is part of the Microsoft Office system and is closely integrated with other Microsoft Office programs. This ensures that communications can occur in the context of the program being used, withouthaving to switch to a different program.

Cisco Systems has formed a partnership with Microsoft to deliver enhanced Office Communicator functions. With the integration of Cisco Unified Communications, Office Communicator can provide click-to-call and third party call control, presence information displayed on your Cisco IP Phones, and incoming call management for calls directed to your Cisco IP Phone.

  • Distribution groups - Add email-enabled groups in the Active Directory to your contact list.

  • Drop-and-drag - Users can drop-and-drag contacts into groups, from contact lists to the conversation window, and from Microsoft Outlook .

  • Presence management - Users can assign varying levels of access to contacts to control who can see personal information.

  • Multi-select contacts - Start IM, phone, audio or video conferences by multi-selecting contacts and then selecting a communication mode.
