Each year, the conference holds it's "Application Bake-Off," where ground-breaking technologies are judged by information technology and business managers who purchase and leverage these technologies in day to day operations. "We are honored to receive these prestigious awards," said Ron Rosansky, President of Fidelus Technologies. "To take the top honor is a testament to the business value of these types of applications. This solution combines IP Telephony, wireless, RFID and voice recognition. It is a great example of how embedding Unified Communications technologies into business workflow helps streamline process and improve customer care while increasing the bottom line." The winning solution is Fidelus' Voice Enabled Location Services (VELS) application, a solution that enables hospital staff to quickly and easily track and retrieve valuable assets such as wheelchairs and doctors with the push of a button. "A critical challenge facing today's hospitals is the frustration and delay of locating wheelchairs, infusion pumps, open beds, etc. It is estimated that hospital staff spend 25-30% of their time physically looking for these assets at the expense of tending to patients and tasks that contribute to the bottom line," Rosansky explains. The VELS solution is easy to use, requires almost no training and eliminates choke points such as nurses' stations. Hospital staff simply presses the "Asset Locator" button on any phone. The user asks for the location of an asset or person (name or role) by asking questions, such as, "Where is the nearest wheelchair?" or "Where is the nearest cardiac specialist?" The service responds with a voice prompt of the location of the nearest asset. In addition, when utilizing Cisco's IP Phones, a list of the next closest assets in order of proximity, are displayed on the IP phone's LCD screen. Hospital assets (including equipment and people) are equipped with radio frequency identification (RFID) tags or wireless IP Phones. The tags and phones emit wireless signals that make it easy for a hospital or other environment (i.e. warehouses) to determine the asset's real-time location. Furthermore, the integrated system works across campuses and uses the same network infrastructure and equipment many hospitals already have in place, further extending their technology investment and ROI. "Fidelus is eager to identify and develop additional cross-market solutions that integrate Unified Communications technologies into business processes. This will enable our partners and clients to be more efficient and do more with fewer resources, particularly in this economic climate." Rosansky said.
