Unified Personal Communicator

INTRODUCTION

Cisco Unified Presence (Presence) consists of a SIP presence engine and a SIP proxy function. The SIP presence engine collects user capabilities (ability to support voice, video, instant messaging, and Web collaboration) and user information (such as busy, idle, away, or available status) and complies the data in a repository for each user. The repository is accessed by the applications and features that each user employs. The SIP proxy function facilitates efficient and accurate routing of both presence and general SIP messaging through the enterprise.

Cisco Unified Personal Communicator (Personal Communicator) is a desktop computer application that helps enable more effective communications. With Personal Communicator, users can access voice, video, document sharing, and presence information-all from a single rich-media interface. Users can easily connect to important communication tools virtually, anywhere, and anytime. Users can check the availability of colleagues in real time and easily search directories to locate important information and initiate communications.
